A Cure for the King

By Eric Woodruff

This quest is designed for those using Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop Achieve workbooks. It is designed for Level B Unit 1, but can easily be modified to meet any of the levels or units by adjusting the links to free web material provided by Sadlier. You must own copies of the Sadlier product to complete the work in the quests. The story itself is centered around a healer trying to find the cure for the ailing king. The main character must locate a rare flower and have it pressed into a potion. After having the potion stolen, the healer must find another way to save the king. The story itself is set in second person and is gender neutral. Students will perform basic vocabulary work and complete two quizzes and one final test leading to the story finale. Quizzes and tests are not included and can be whatever the teacher normally has in store. Some wording in quiz and test quest event tasks will likely need rewording to match assessment program or paper-based needs. There are two built in reteaching activities the follow the both quiz events. Rewards are basic in nature, designed to meet about a 20-minute per day workload (though everyone has their own view on reward amounts, I'm sure). I hope teachers out there find this useful. It is really meant as a basic framework for a three-week vocabulary cycle. Each cycle would need a new story and refreshed links to reuse the basic vocabulary work structure.
