In this quest, students will read the article "Walking on thin Ice" by Jacqueline Adams. This article is from a free edition of Scholastic's ScienceWorld magazine. The quest breaks down the text so the students read one chunk in each objective and answer guiding questions. There is also a great video clip in a later objective from BBC's "The Hunt" showing a polar bear hunting a seal. The essential question for the quest is "How might changes in the environment affect the animals that live in an ecosystem?" This quest can be used in a variety of contexts including climate change, human impact, animal behavior, predator/prey relationships, etc. [MS-LS2-4]
