The quest story is about a hero searching for the "Rational Enemy." The quest utilizes Khan Academy Mappers lessons. My students have accounts and get XP based on the number of minutes they spend working each week. Alternately, you could have students upload screen shots by making each step an assignment. The lessons include operations with fractions leading up to simplifying a complex fraction.
